Tesla’s long-awaited robotaxi service officially launched in Austin, Texas, over the weekend. While the debut marks a major milestone for the company’s autonomous vehicle ambitions, it hasn’t come without controversy.
Shortly after the launch, videos surfaced on social media allegedly showing Tesla’s self-driving cars violating traffic laws. In response, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) confirmed it has reached out to Tesla to request additional information regarding these incidents.
Despite the online footage, a spokesperson for the City of Austin stated that no formal traffic complaints or reports have been filed in connection with the robotaxi rollout.
As Tesla continues to expand its autonomous services, safety regulators and city officials appear to be watching closely.
